Scheduling Surgery
Surgery is a team effort, and your recovery begins long before you arrive at the hospital for surgery. It starts with preoperative optimization, which is the process of fine-tuning your health to reduce your risk of complications with and after surgery. By managing factors such as nutrition, diabetes, and other underlying medical conditions ahead of time, we are working together to ensure you have the best possible outcome with surgery.
Checklist to Schedule Surgery
Please complete the following items before your surgery can be scheduled:
-
Blood Work
Most patients complete their preoperative blood work at either LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics. Walk-ins are generally accepted at both, but scheduling an appointment can help to minimize your wait time. We recommend that you get your blood work done as soon as possible to help expedite surgery. -
Chest X-Ray
A chest x-ray ensures your lungs and heart are ready for surgery. Walk-ins are welcome at both these locations. Call (707) 778-2555 or (707) 525-4040 for hours and other questions. -
EKG
An electrocardiogram (EKG) records your heart's electrical activity and is an important part of ensuring you're ready for surgery. Walk-ins are welcome at both these locations: -
Medical Clearance from your primary care physician (PCP)
Your PCP must review your medical history and clear you for surgery -
Medical Clearance from your cardiologist (if applicable)
Required if you've seen a cardiologist in the last 2 years or your PCP recommends it
Important: If any preoperative testing results come back abnormal, your surgery may need to be postponed.
Please fax your completed preoperative testing results and medical clearance notes to: (707) 693-7040
